KHS grabs 2 conference softball wins
Victories over Pioneer-Pleasant Vale, Waukomis halt brief losing skid
Kingfisher rediscovered its winning ways on the softball diamond by sweeping a pair of Tri-County Conference foes.
The Lady Jackets knocked off Pioneer-Pleasant Vale 13-8 and Waukomis 14-1 in games held at Waukomis Thursday night.
Mia Farrell and Natalie Dick drove in three runs apiece in the victory over Pioneer.
They were needed as KHS gave up seven runs off five hits and three errors in the top of the first inning.
The Lady Jackets countered with two runs in the bottom half and four more in the second.
Kaycee Karcher had run-scoring hits in both frames. She also scored both innings.
Dick picked up an RBI on a fielder’s choice in the first and another with her double in the second.
Farrell also scored both innings while picking up an RBI with her single in the first.
KHS took the lead for good with three more runs in the third.
Katey Brickman’s double scored Loren Ballard to get it started. She scored on Farrell’s RBI goundout and Mia Farrell later tripled and scored on an error.
Kingfisher got insurance runs in the sixth as Farrell, Olivia Wilcox and Dick all drove in a run.
After the rough start, Wilcox settled down to limit the Lady Mustangs to one run over the final six frames.
She struck out four batters and gave up six hits overall, but just one after the first inning. Only one run was earned.
Ballard, Dick, Wilcox and Karcher had two hits apiece. Karcher scored three times to go along with her two RBIs.
The Waukomis victory lasted just three innings.
Kingfisher started and finished strong with six runs in the first and seven in the third.
Emma Lukasek’s two-run single was part of the big first-inning outburst.
She out-did that in the third by driving in three runs with a triple.
Lukasek finished 2 for 3 with five RBIs and a pair of runs scored.
Farrell had three hits and an RBI.
Macy McCully added two hits and three RBIs while Ballard drove in two runs.
Wilcox gave up three hits and struck out three to earn the win.
The victories snapped a three-game losing skid for the Lady Jackets, who evened their record at 15-15.
KHS travels to Perkins for a District 4A-1 contest Monday.
