Coaches pull positives from 2nd scrimmage
The final tune-up for the Kingfisher football team is in the books.
The Jackets traveled to Clinton Thursday for a scrimmage against the Red Tornadoes and Alva.
“We did some good things and still have some things to correct,” head coach Jeff Myers said of the outing.
“But overall, I thought it was a positive night for us.”
Offensively, coordinator Micah Nall said there will be plenty for his unit to improve upon this week ahead of the team’s showdown with Tuttle.
However, he added, there was also a lot to build on after Thursday.
“There were plenty of bright spots,” he said.
Among them were Mason Mecklenburg running the ball; Wes Hine, Sebastian Orozco and newcomer Case Wills blocking; and Keaton and Clayton Abercrombie at receiver.
Nall also mentioned the speed of Cade Stephenson at quarterback.
Myers’ praise was more of a broad stroke for the defensive unit.
“We had some kids do well that we expected and some did some things we already corrected,” he said.
KHS opens the season Friday at home against Tuttle, the defending Class 4A champion.
The Tigers defeated KHS 26-14 at Tuttle to open the 2018 campaign.
