Leonard Hollar Jr.
Leonard Ralph Hollar, Jr., 71, passed away Aug. 15, 2017, at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center Shreveport, La.
He was born Aug. 4, 1946, in Enid to Leonard Ralph and Dora Margaret Moss Hollar.
In 1954 the family moved from Covington to Kingfisher.
Leonard graduated from Kingfisher High School in 1964. During his senior year when he was 17, he convinced his parents to allow him to join the National Guard.
After basic training with the U.S. Army, he served in the Oklahoma National Guard for the next six-and-a-half years.
Leonard married Ellen Poindexter in 1966. They were divorced in 1982.
Leonard served in the U.S. Army from 1970 until he retired in 1985.
During his military career, he served one tour in Vietnam with the 146th Radio Research Co (Avn). He was an aircraft repairman and a crew chief.
He also completed two tours in Germany where he served as a Nuclear Biological Chemical (NBC) Specialist.
While serving in the military, Leonard earned several commendations. He graduated from Northwestern State University of Louisiana in Natchitoches, La., with an associate’s degree in basic studies in 1984. He earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Louisiana State University at Shreveport in 1997. ›His principal places of employment were Vance Air Force Base (civilian employee), National Guard, U.S. Army, Boeing Aircraft, Bureau of the Census and Vinson Guard Service, Inc.
He was a member of the American Legion and the National Rifle Association, among other groups.
Lenoard was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include brothers Charles Hollar and wife Pam of Liberal, Kan., and David Hollar and wife Susan of Apache, as well as a niece and nephew and their children.
Leonard’s remains were interred Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019, next to his parents at Kingfisher Cemetery.
