Handful of local athletes to end prep careers at OCA All-State games this week

Stone Snodgrass is going to wrestle.
Trey Green gets to play basketball.
Well, sort of anyway.
The Oklahoma Coaches Association will host its annual All-State games this week in the Tulsa area in conjunction with its coaches’ clinic.
The games will feature a handful of area athletes in a variety of different sports.
Sternberger earned All-State status in both football and basketball and while he’s going to play the latter at Rogers State University, he’s opted to play football when the East takes on the West at 7 p.m. Friday at Bixby High School.
“Just getting one more chance to put pads on and play a real football game again was appealing to me,” said Sternberger, who was chosen as a quarterback.
“I’m going to play basketball the next four years so I might as well enjoy my last chance at a football game.”
That means Sternberger won’t be suiting up alongside Green one more time on the basketball court as both were chosen to be on the Large West squad.
However, they wouldn’t have been able to be on the court together much, anyway.

Green played with an injured foot all basketball season and had surgery in March.
“It’s getting better. I can jog, but I’m not supposed to play yet,” Green said last Thursday. “So I will get in and maybe play a few possessions, but that’s about it.”
The game will give a chance for Green to be on the sidelines with his father one final time.
Danny Green, an assistant on the KHS staff, is one of the coaches for the Large West.
Tipoff for the large-school game is 8:30 p.m.
The small-school game will also feature Okarche’s Cris Avila, who led the Warriors to the Class A semifinals.
His Small West team will take on the Small East at 7 p.m.
Snodgrass was picked up a couple weeks ago for the Small West roster in wrestling.
He will grapple with Wagoner’s Trystian Shire-man at 145 pounds.
Wrestling begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sand Springs High School.
While he hasn’t spent a ton of time on the mat since the season ended, Snodgrass said he feels prepared for next week.
“I did go to wrestling camp with the (KHS) team sort of as a coach and rolled around a bit there, but other than that, I haven’t been on the mat a lot,” he said.
“But I have been working out just about everyday, so I’d say I’m in pretty good shape.”
Snodgrass currently weighs 150, but OCA allows for a 12-pound cushion at weigh-in.
“I’m good there,” he noted.
The first event of the week is golf at 8:30 a.m. Monday at Cherokee Hills Golf Club.
It will feature Kingfisher’s Peyton Burns, who was an automatic qualifier after his individual finish during the 3A state tournament.
Joining Sternberger on the West football team will be Crescent’s Hunter Bowers.
Bowers was selected to play linebacker.
OCA charges $5 admission to wrestling, basketball, football, tennis, volleyball and swimming throughout the week.
