Cashion comes back from break with pair of weekend sweeps
Cashion rang in the new year with a weekend double dip.
And, for the Lady Wildcats, it offered a pair of lopsided wins to snap a three-game losing skid.
Cashion won 42-18 at Kremlin-Hillsdale on Friday afternoon, then returned home Saturday to double up Morrison 50-25.
Those victories improved Cashion, ranked 12th in Class 2A, to 7-3 on the season.
The Lady Wildcats ended the first semester with consecutive losses to Hooker (13th in 2A), Washington (#1 in 3A) and Dale (#1 in 2A).
Kremlin-Hillsdale entered the matchup with only one loss - that being to Lomega - but couldn’t find any consistent scoring to keep up with Cashion.
The Lady Broncs had just six points at halftime and never scored more than six in any quarter.
The Shafers combined to outscore their hosts by themselves.
Megan Shafer poured in 13 points and added six rebounds.
Brooke Shafer chipped in eight points and also had a team-high eight boards.
Addison McCracken added six points.
Morrison was game - for a quarter anyway.
Cashion led just 11-9 after the first, but outscored Morrison 12-0 in the second quarter to grab command.
Megan Shafer again led the team as she scored 13 points to go with six rebounds.
Abby Hobgood chipped in 11 points.
Jaylee Harp and Madison Westerhoff scored eight apiece. Harp contributed seven rebounds as well.
Wildcats avenge loss to Morrison Apparently Cashion and Morrison are destined to play close basketball games this year.
The Wildcats edged the visiting Wildcats from Morrison 52-50 on Saturday to win their second game in as many days.
It was the teams’ second matchup of the season as they met Dec. 6 in Morrison. The home team won that game by two points as well.
Morrison took a fourpoint lead into the fourth quarter in the rematch and still led by two points with under 2 minutes to play.
That changed when Drake Woody buried a 3-pointer with 1:41 left to give Cashion a one-point advantage.
The home team wouldn’t lose it.
Morrison couldn’t answer on its end and Woody eventually made two free throws with 21 seconds to go to push it to a three-point lead.
After Morrison’s Maddox Schubert made two free throws with 8 seconds to play, Woody again pushed it to three points with two more free throws with 6 seconds left in the game and Cashion held on to improve to 7-3.
Woody ended his night with 14 points.
The team was led by Parker Mitchell’s 16 while Carson Gump scored eight.
Schubert led all scorers with 21 points.
The Wildcats preceded that win with a 71-61 triumph Friday at Kremlin- Hillsdale.
Cashion built its lead over the first three quarters as it led by eight at the half and then 13 after the third.
Mitchell once again led the team, this time with 22 points.
Gump scored 12 while Kamden Miller chipped in 12.
