Tuttle gets best of Jackets in back-and-forth affair

In a game of ups and downs for both teams, Tuttle got the last up.

The Tigers outscored Kingfisher 10-5 in the fourth quarter to keep a 54-46 victory Tuesday night on their home floor.

Both teams had major runs in the game, allowing both to take what seemed to be commanding leads.

The first was by KHS, which jumped out to a 9-2 advantage.

Tuttle came back with a 15-2 spurt that spanned into the second quarter.

The Tigers built a 31-19 lead late in the first half, but the Yellowjackets closed with a 7-0 run and then scored the first nine points of the second half. Kasen Blair played a big role in that surge.

The junior had four straight points to close the first half, then three points as part of Kingfisher’s start to the second half.

The Jackets held Tuttle scoreless for the first 5:35 of the third quarter and took a 37-31 lead.

But back came the Tigers.

They closed the third quarter on an 8-0 burst that included a Maddox Wilson steal and banked-in 3-pointer at the buzzer for a 44-41 lead.

The momentum carried over into the fourth as Tut-tle got out to a 50-43 lead. Kingfisher only got as close as four points, which came on Jett Birdwell’s 3-pointer with 2:06 to play.

Tuttle’s Jett Price answered with at trey with 1:15 left to help ice the game.

The Tigers made nine 3-pointers in the game, including four in the second quarter to help them claim their dozen-point lead.

Price made three 3-pointers and scored 14 points.

Wilson also made three of them as part of his 19 points.

Hayes White led the Jackets with 19 points.

Blair came through with 13 points on 6 of 8 shooting.

He also had six rebounds and four steals.

Birdwell scored eight while grabbing a team-high eight boards.

The loss dropped Kingfi sher to 4-3.

The Jackets host Anadarko on Jan. 3. The Warriors are currently ranked fifth in Class 3A.
