Dover deals Burlington pair of defeats

Dover spoiled Burlington’s homecoming by sweeping the Elks last Friday in their brand-new gymnasium.

The Lady Longhorns won for the third straight time as they defeated Burlington 49-25.

The DHS boys followed it up with a 74-23 victory.

Senior Ashley Gamez caught fire early as she knocked down a trio of 3-pointers and scored 11 points as Dover got out to a 16-11 lead.

She hit two more in the fourth quarter as Dover put the game away with a 12-4 run.

Gamez led all scorers with 22 points as Dover improved to 7-4.

Rylee Buck scored 10 while Joi Caldwell added seven and Kynli Boeckman six.

Jonah Pendergaft and Lucas Conrady took turns getting red-hot in the boys’ contest.

Pendergraft scored 13 in the first quarter as Dover jumped on the Elks 21-7.

Conrady then hit a quartet of 3-pointers in the second quarter as part of a 23-6 run.

Pendergraft added seven more points in the third quarter and ended his night with 22.

Conrady and Casen Buck scored 12 points apiece while Nathan Cohee scored nine.

Now ranked 10th in Class B, Dover is 10-1 with a 10-game win streak.
