Cashion girls lock down Morrison
Morrison was shackled by Cashion’s defense for the better part of the game Friday.
The result saw Cashion improve to 2-0 with its 47-23 win on the road.
Up 9-8 after a quarter, Cashion allowed just four points over the next 16-plus minutes.
That included shutting out Morrison in the third quarter.
It allowed the visiting Lady Wildcats to push their lead to 21 points entering the final frame.
Eight different Cashion players scored.
They were led by senior Addison McCracken’s 13 points.
Brooke Shafer chipped in 12 more while Megan Shafer scored seven.
Wildcats drop narrow contest at Morrison
Another Cashion boys basketball game came down to the wire.
This time, however, the Wildcats weren’t celebrating after the final buzzer.
Drake Woody’s 3-pointer from the corner missed to the right as the horn sounded Friday, allowing Morrison to secure a 66-64 victory at home.
The hosting Wildcats led Cashion by five in the final minute, but Cashion eventually pulled within 66-64 on Parker Mitchell’s driving layup.
Cashion fouled, sending Morrison to the free throw line with a chance to make it a two-possession game.
But both free throws were missed, giving Cashion a chance to tie or take home the win.
After the Wildcats couldn’t initially find a shot, coach John Hardaway called a timeout with two seconds remaining.
The sideline inbound play allowed Woody to get a look from the corner, but the shot just missed.
The play capped a wild fourth in which Cashion scored 27 points and nearly erased what was a 13-point deficit entering the frame.
Morrison built the bulk of its lead with a 22-11 run in the second quarter.
Mitchell led Cashion with 21 points. He added seven assists and seven rebounds.
Anthony Wilburn scored 12 while Woody contributed nine and Carson Gump eight. Gump also led the team with eight boards.
Cashion drops to 1-1 with the loss.
