Burlington has a shiny new gym this basketball season.

Lomega tried to take some of the shine off with its visit last Friday night.

The Lady Raiders stayed unbeaten while the Lomega boys snapped a three-game losing streak in sweeping Burlington in Cherokee Strip Conference games.

The girls’ game was over almost before it started as Lomega didn’t give up a first-quarter point en route to a 69-13 victory.

Lomega led 30-0 after the first quarter and then 46-2 at halftime.

For the first time this season, freshman Reagan Snowden didn’t lead the team in scoring.

The honors this time went to Paige Wheeler.

She nailed two treys and had nine points in the first quarter before finishing with 19.

Snowden did score 11 off the bench for Lomega.

Eleven Lady Raiders scored, including nine points by Aliana Lawson.

The win pushed Lomega to 5-0.

The Raiders were coming off a three-game stretch against teams that made it to state tournaments a year ago - two of them to their respective state finals.

Burlington didn’t fit that mold and the Raiders took full advantage in a 57-30 win that wasn’t as close as the 27-point margin of victory.

Lomega scored 23 points in each of the first two quarters and led by 33 at halftime.

They extended it to 37 entering the fourth quarter, one in which Lomega didn’t score.

Three Raiders were able to hit double figures, led by Chase Burton’s 15 points.

He scored all of them in the first half.

Jaxson Snowden and Brenden Uhlenhake scored 10 points apiece and Ben Marsh chipped in nine points.

The win upped Lomega’s mark to 2-3.
