Scout Snodgrass made two trips to the medal stand at the Class 4A state cross country meet.

The Kingfisher High School junior placed ninth Saturday and was among the 15 medalists recognized during a ceremony after the race at Edmond Santa Fe High School.

Snodgrass had already stood on the risers prior to that as she was joined by her KHS teammates in being announced as the 4A girls academic state champions.

It was the second year in a row for KHS to earn that honor as the team carried a 4.0 GPA.

On the course, Kingfi sher placed sixth overall with 202 points to wrap up Stefan Seifried’s first season as head coach.

“I think the season as a whole went really well,” Seifried said. “As always, you are looking to win a state championship and hopefully we will soon.”

The state title went to Lincoln Christian, which totaled just 40 points. Defending state champion Pauls Valley was the runner-up with 75.

Byng placed third with 109, Plainview fourth with 184 and Metro Christian fifth with 188.

Snodgrass ran the twomile course in 12:30.06 and her placing earned her All-State honors.

The top 10 finishers at state, regardless of age classification, earn All-State. Those who place 11-15 are all-stars.

As far as team points go, Snodgrass’ finish was good for seventh.

Lily Lunsford crossed 43rd overall (34th in team points) as she finished in 13:31.73.

Mattie Slezickey was 47th (38th) in 13:34.83, Harper Evans was 54th (45th) in 13:44.20 and Terry- Ann McCully rounded out the scoring for KHS as she was 94th (78th) in 14:18.51.

Rylee Long-Bush and Chloe Richardson also competed for the Lady Jackets.

“It has been an enjoyable season and I am looking forward to seeing what we can do next year,” said Seifried. “I appreciate the work these kids and coach (Nicole) Kippenberger put in all year.”

In the boys race, Wyatt Long placed 80th.

The junior ran the 5K course in 18:31.11. It was Long’s second straight year to qualify for state.

“Now knowing what all is coming back and what their goals and limits are, we will have a bright future to come for both groups,” Seifried said.
