Lomega opens season with Dover sweep
Lance Yost and Chase Burton took care of a majority of the offense.
All of the Raiders contributed to the defense.
The result stifled visiting Dover’s production on the offensive end as Lomega picked up a 39-33 victory Friday night in the basketball season opener for both teams.
Yost scored 16 points and Burton 10 as each Raider connected on a trio of 3-pointers.
Dover struggled to find its mark from long-range all night.
The Longhorns were just 3 of 20 from beyond the arc for the game.
Lomega had four 3-pointers by the end of the first quarter.
Yost buried two, Burton one and Ben Marsh another as the hosts staked a 14-5 lead.
Dover spent the rest of the night trying to catch up.
The Longhorns outscored Lomega 19-15 over the middle two quarters.
Two of Dover’s treys came in the second quarter as Casen Buck and Nathan Cohee made one apiece.
However, Dover didn’t have another until the game had been decided in the fourth quarter.
Marsh ended his night with seven points for Lomega while Jaxson Snowden added six.
Dover was led by Carter Kitchens’ nine points. He had six in the second half.
Buck finished with sev- en and Jonah Pendergraft scored six.
Lady Raiders take down Dover 76-39
A year ago, Dover opened eyes statewide when it shocked Lomega in the basketball season opener.
The Lady Raiders earned the ultimate prize by raising the gold ball at the end of the year, then last Friday exacted a measure of revenge for one of their two losses last season.
Lomega dominated the first and fourth quarters on its home court to hand Dover a 76-39 defeat in the season opener for both teams.
Six different Lady Raiders scored in the first quarter as the home team built up a 23-8 lead.
Dover only had two players score in the first half as Rylee Buck and Emerson Belt accounted for all 15 points. However, Dover was only outscored 11-7 in the second.
The Lady Longhorns started to find more offense in the third quarter.
Ashley Gamez and Buck combined for 11 of Dover’s 15 points as four different Lady Longhorns scored.
Unfortunately for the guests, Lomega got four treys in the third quarter - three by Jenny Penaran - and extended its lead by another four points.
Freshman Reagan Snowden then heated up in the fourth.
She used a traditional three-point play and a 3-pointer as part of her 12 points in the frame as Lomega closed with a 23-9 run.
Snowden led all scorers with 22 points.
Hadley Ott, who scored eight points in the first quarter, added 12.
Penaran and Aliana Lawson scored nine apiece.
Buck paced the Lady Longhorns with 15 points.
Gamez and Kynli Boeckman chipped in seven points apiece.
