A majority of county cross country teams will be making the trip to Enid this Saturday for their regional meets.

A couple of others will be traveling quite a bit further.

Kingfisher is one of them.

The KHS runners will take part in a Class 4A regional in Waurika on Saturday.

The girls will run at 10:45 a.m. and the boys at 11:30 a.m.

Also in the Waurika regional will be Lomega in Class A. Those races are at 9 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. for girls and boys, respectively.

All runners - whether as part of a team or individually - will be trying to secure their spots at state, which will be held the following week.

In Class A and 2A, the top five teams and the top 12 individuals from non-qualifying teams will move on to state.

In Class 4A, it’s the top six teams and top seven individuals who qualify.

The KHS girls are ranked fourth in Class 4A and are one of three top-five ranked teams running at Waurika.

They are joined by No. 1 Pauls Valley, which is the defending state champ, and No. 5 Plainview.

The Hennessey girls are ranked fifth in Class 2A.

The Lady Eagles will be joined by the likes of top-ranked Hooker, the defending state champ, and No. 6 Fairview.

Lomega’s girls are ranked ninth in Class A. Their regional also consists of No. 3 Texhoma and No. 6 Boise City.
