Judith Ann ‘Judy’ Johnson
Judith Ann Johnson of Kingfisher, beloved wife and mother of three, passed away peacefully in Edmond on Monday, Oct. 7, 2024, leaving a void that cannot be filled.
She was 79. Judy was born in Duncan on March 3, 1945, to Norman LaVaughan and Lucille Alvey Freeman and attended Catholic school in Duncan through eighth grade.
She graduated from Duncan High School in 1963. She then attended Oklahoma State University, eventually majoring in accounting and where she met the love of her life, Mike.
Mike and Judy married on Dec. 26, 1966. That date was picked because she told Mike she wanted to have one more Christmas with her family before getting married.
Upon her graduation from OSU in 1967, Mike and Judy moved to Oklahoma City and opened a tropical fish store together.
They soon moved to Edmond where they had their three children: Lori in 1969, David in 1971 and Rob in 1974.
While in Edmond, Mike started a CPA firm where Judy also worked, quite often with her children crawling under her desk.
In 1981, Mike and Judy moved to Kingfisher to join the family’s car dealership, Johnsons of Kingfisher. Mike became the general manager and Judy served as the controller.
They lived the remainder of their time together in Kingfisher, but they traveled as often as possible.
They attended almost every Oklahoma State football and basketball game while their health allowed.
All three of their children and two granddaughters (Megan J and Jenna) graduated from OSU, while three of their grandchildren currently attend (Megan C, John Michael and Elijah).
Both Judy and Mike were inducted into the OSU Spears Business School Hall of Fame.
Judy loved to travel and live life to the fullest.
She loved and was respected by everyone she knew.
She and Mike were extremely generous and gave to many.
She volunteered much time to the Youth and Family Services of Canadian, Kingfisher and Blaine counties throughout the years.
Judy was nominated for The Journal Record Oklahoma Woman of the Year three times. Both Judy and Mike were recipients of The Center of Family Love’s Harold J. Wittrock Humanitarian Award in 2023.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband Mike Johnson, her daughter Lori Johnson, her parents N.L and Lucille Freeman and her brothers Norman Freeman and David Freeman.
She is survived by her brothers and sisters Mary Wooten (married to Dean), Mike Freeman (married to Arleta), Cathy Love, Patrick Freeman and Lynn Summers (married to Greg); her sons David Johnson (married to Jerilyn) and Rob Johnson (married to Colleen); and her grandchildren Mary Sanders, Anna Sanders, John Michael Sanders, Catherine Sanders, Elizabeth Sanders, Megan Johnson, Jenna Morkes (married to Brandt Morkes), Michael Johnson, Elijah Johnson, Kensington Johnson, McKellyn Johnson, Madeline Camp, Megan Camp and Maren Camp.
