Snodgrass wins 1st, team 2nd at Heritage Hall meet
About midway through the course on Thursday, Scout Snodgrass found herself in fourth place.
By the time she reached the final stretch, the Kingfi sher High School junior had made her way to the front of the pack, but was closely pursued by Hope Fahler of Casady and Zeffie Elenburg of Heritage Hall.
Then the runners hit the track for the final 300 meters.
It was no longer a race. Snodgrass found a gear the other two runners didn’t have and won first place in the Heritage Hall Cross Country Meet.
She finished the twomile race in 12:29.88, 14 seconds ahead of the next two runners.
That helped KHS to a second-place finish in the team standings.
Casady won the meet with 62 points. KHS was the runner-up with 71 and Heritage Hall third with 86.
There were 13 full teams in the meet.
The top-20 individuals medaled in the event and that included Lily Lunsford, who placed sixth in 13:01.67, and Harper Evans, who was 11th in 13:23.71.
Mattie Slezickey just missed a medal as the sophomore was 21st in13:41.65.
Terry Ann McCully took 32nd in 14:14.72 to round out Kingfisher’s scoring.
Also for KHS, Chloe Richardson placed 80th, Rylee Long-Bush 82nd, Gisselle Ponce 85th and Sophia Dudzinski 106th.
Cashion had one runner in the meet as Addison Mc-Cracken placed 24th with a time of 13:51.04.
Baustert leads 4 boys runners from county
There was also one Cashion runner in the high school boys race…and he medaled.
Luke Baustert placed 12th as he finished the 5k course in 16:58.01.
Kingfisher’s contingent of runners was paced by Wyatt Long, who was 32nd in 18:07.80.
Conner Askey placed 102nd with a time of 21:01.92 and Chance Dunn 104th in 21:04.33.
There were 183 runners in the high school boys race.
