Myers wins 4th OGA state event
Heath Myers’ solid summer on the golf course continued last week.
Just over a week after winning his 15th Kingfisher Golf Association club championship, Myers claimed his fourth Oklahoma Golf Association title.
This time around it was the OGA’s Mid-Amateur, which was played Monday and Tuesday at Winter Creek Golf & Social Club in Blanchard.
Myers fired a 4-under- par 68 in Tuesday’s closing round to finish at 3-under 141 for the tournament.
That was four strokes better than runners-up Eric Fox of Weatherford (74-71) and Bryan Vahlberg of Norman (72-73).
An opening round of 73 had Myers in a tie for third place behind JR Hurley of Norman (71) and Vahlberg.
Tulsa’s Harley Abrams also shot 73 Monday.
But Hurley carded a 77 Tuesday to finish well back at 148. He was in a three-way tie for fifth along with Abrams, who shot 75 Tuesday, and Edmond’s Caleb Price (74-74).
Myers’ Tuesday round was the only one in the 60s for the entire tournament and was the best round by three strokes.
The win was Myers’ second Mid-Amateur championship as he also won in 2018. He also won the OGA Stroke Play Championship in 2018.
Myers teamed with Scott Kedy to win the OGA Four-Ball Championship in 2017.
