Clarence Jones, Jr.

The love of my life and fellow adventurer, Clarence Author Jones, Jr., passed in his sleep sometime after 4 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2024. Clarence was born Dec. 19, 1932, in Topeka, Kan. Because he was such an authentic person, people loved him and sought him out long after he had left a job or the state. He had a way of conveying love that put people at ease and made him popular wherever he lived.

One of his brothers said: “I can sum up my relationship with my brother with this: He was my shelter in the times of my storms and goodness only knows I had some major storms in my life. I am proud to have had him for a brother and thank him for all he did for me.”

Another said: “ My brother was a man of great endurance and resilience. I remember his artistic capabilities, carving soap bars into intricately rendered animals and painting cartoon characters of his kids’ walls. I do, and will, miss him.”

Clarence is survived by his wife of 50 years, Martha (Shutler) Jones; his two sisters, Patricia and Karen; his two brothers, Ron and Jim; his four children, Mike, Ann, Kevin and Janis; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his two grandsons.

He loved his country and proudly served in the United States Navy.

An intelligent man, gifted with his hands, he acquired his A&P license and worked at Boeing in Wichita, Kan., and Bell Helicopter International overseas.

He worked as a manager of an oil company and in a munitions factory in California.

Wherever we moved, his intelligence, skills and warm personality were always appreciated.
