Richard ‘Dick’ Davis
Richard “Dick” Davis was born to Vernie and Mae Davis on Oct. 10, 1946, in Altus.
He passed away Thursday, June 6, 2024, at the age of 77. Dick graduated from Blair High School in 1964. He is survived by his loving wife, Kay Davis; sons Monty, John and Robert; brother Mac; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Vernie and Mae Davis and brothers James and Gene.
Dick met Kay in May 1966 at Danny Ketts’ Auto Repair while helping his brother. He asked Kay for a date and the rest is history. They married Dec. 29, 1967, at the Billings Christian Church.
Dick and Kay made their home in Billings and later retired in Cashion.
Dick proudly served in the U.S. Army. In 1964, Dick enlisted in the Army 45th Division where he attended the Officers School and achieved the rank of second lieutenant.
In 1976, after Dick entered Vietnam, he was promoted to the rank of captain and commanded a Reconnaissance Unit. He was presented the Vietnam Medal of Honor, Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star, Bronze Star, Gold Star, Armed Forces Honor Medal and Bronze Star Medal.
In 1976 he was honorably discharged from the military.
Dick graduated in 1974 from Northern Oklahoma College with an associate of science.
In 1976, he graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor of science in agricultural education. Dick was awarded the Dean’s Honor Roll each semester and OSU Outstanding Student Teacher Award for the fall of 1975.
Dick was a vocational-agriculture teacher for Billings and Cyril high schools.
During his teaching career, Dick worked with farmers on livestock purchasing and selling. Doing this work, enabled him an opportunity to further his agricultural career as administrator of agriculture for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections for 27 years and retired in 2011.
Dick was a past director and vice president for Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association, actively volunteered for Cashion Fire Department and was a proud Past Master of Billings Lodge and remained a Brother of the Masons until his death.
Dick was a loving husband, devoted father, spoiling grandfather and supportive friend to all.
Funeral services were Monday, June 10, at First United Methodist Church in Cashion with Rev. Dave Petty officiating.
Interment followed at Union Cemetery, Billings.
Services were under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
