Lomega group breaks school record in relay
Lady Raiders are academic state champs
Lomega athletes made three trips to the medal stand at the Class A state track and field meet last weekend.
Two of them were for their accomplishments on the track at Western Heights High School.
Another was for their work off of it.
Lomega won the academic state championship for a fourth straight year.
The team carried a cumulative GPA of 4.0 yet again.
On the track, Lomega racked up 14 points and set a school record…by a wide margin.
Kate Myers, Isabel Hansen, Monse Rivera and Paige Wheeler took fourth place in the 3,200 meter relay.
Their time of 10:24.56 was not only 21 seconds faster than they ran at the regional earlier in the week, but it shattered the school record by 16 seconds.
That record was set by the same group at the state meet the year before.
Claire Myers took fifth place in the 3,200 meter run with her time of 12:54.23.
As a team, Lomega placed 17th. There were 43 teams represented at the meet.
“I’m very proud of them,” coach Justin Edsall said. “I thought they improved as much during the season as any group we ever had.”
