Lomega sees new school record in mile relay; several Raiders are state qualifiers
Lomega’s girls finished their Class A regional track and field meet with some silver...and a school record.
The quartet of Paige Wheeler, Monse Rivera, Isabel Hansen and Kate Myers took second place Monday in the 1,600 meter relay at Cherokee.
Their time of 4:24.27 set a new school record on top of already automatically qualifying for state.
Those same four also took second in the 3,200 meter relay to qualify for state.
Kate Myers was also second in the 800 to advance to state.
Claire Myers won a regional championship as she claimed gold in the 3,200 meter run.
She was also third in the mile run, moving on to state in both events.
Kinsley Fisher set a new PR in the shot put. Her toss of 30 feet, 3 inches was good for second place and a spot at state.
Lomega placed fourth as a team with 67 points.
No Lomega boys automatically qualified, but could have additional qualifi ers.
Trevor Lentz took fourth in the 100 meter dash and Hunter Russell fourth in the 3,200 meter run.
Logan Zielinski was fifth in the 800.
The top three placers in each event from each of the four regionals automatically qualify.
The next six best times, distances or heights from all the combined regionals will also advance as additional qualifiers.
The official list of additional qualifiers had not been released at press time.
Class A state is Friday and Saturday at Western Heights High School.
