Softball, baseball districts in full swing (and pitch)
Playoff season is here for small school baseball and softball. One county team claimed a district championship Thursday while three others remained in the hunt. The Dover baseball team grabbed a 14-5 win against Medford on Thursday in a Class B district at Kremlin- Hillsdale. The host Broncs then knocked off Dover 13-3. Combined with its 17-0 win against Medford, Kremlin-Hillsdale was in the driver’s seat entering Friday’s game with Dover (after press time). The Longhorns would need two wins to claim the district championship. Lomega’s Austin Chestnut (top left photo) helped the Raiders win two games as they hosted their Class B district. The Raiders beat Timberlake 19-5 and Cimarron 15-0. They played Timberlake on Friday and needed just one win to win the district title and advance to this week’s regional. The Okarche baseball team is in the same position as Lomega. The Warriors beat Waukomis 15-0 and then Garber 10-0 at home in their Class A district. Both were run-rule victories. Okarche, ranked fi fth in Class A, played the Wolverines again Friday and needed just one win to advance to the regional. The team claiming a district championship was Dover in its Class B slow pitch tournament. The 16th-ranked Lady Longhorns beat Cement 15-0 and then knocked off No. 14 Waynoka 15-5 and 8-2 at home. The wins advance Dover to the regional tournament this week. Fatima Aboite (top right) is pictured delivering a pitch in that 8-2 victory against Waynoka. The Okarche Lady Warriors and Seiling went toe-to-toe in their 2A district at Okarche. After both teams beat Indianola, it left them to play a best-of-three series. Seiling won the first game 4-2. Okarche came back to claim the second game, 5-4, forcing the “if” game. Seiling proved too much as the Ladycats prevailed 13-5 to win the title.
