Lady Jacket soccer team takes 3rd in Weatherford

Hardware came home with the Kingfisher girls soccer team last weekend.
The Lady Jackets edged OKC Storm 1-0 Friday to claim third place in the Weatherford Eagles Classic.
“It was a fun weekend,” said coach Aniessa Edsall. “We got a couple of good wins to build our confidence going into more district games.”
KHS opened the tournament Thursday with an 8-1 victory against Cordell.
Later that evening, host Weatherford handed the Lady Jackets a 5-0 defeat in the semifinals.
“The tournament showed us some weaknesses and things we need to work on,” Edsall said. “But it also showed us good things to build on for the remainder of district play.”
All of Kingfisher’s remaining contests are district games as the Lady Jackets make their push for the playoffs.
Among those foes down the line is Cordell, which provided little resistance in the tournament opener.
Ariana Rivera scored in the early minutes, opening the gates...for her and the rest of the team.
By the time it was wrapped up, Rivera had a hat trick - three goals - for the Lady Jackets.
Molly Weber and Liliana Garramone knocked in two goals apiece while fellow freshman Maya Haney scored once.
The lone goal in Friday’s contest came from Haney.
A Storm defender sent Hannah Click’s throw-in back in her direction.
Click pushed a pass back in Haney’s direction and the freshman directed it into the goal in the game’s 22nd minute.
Zoey Padilla preserved the shutout, collecting seven saves on the day as KHS moved to 4-3 on the season.
Edsall said Rivera and Haney have speed that continually stress opposing defenses, but was also glad to see others get in on the scoring mix over the weekend.
“It was exciting to see some fresh faces on the stat line with Molly and Liliana scoring,” she said. “I’m proud of them working so hard after coming off a tough couple of weeks.”
Kingfisher hosts Alva for homecoming this Friday.
The girls play at 5 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m. with the coronation taking place prior to the girls contest.
••• The KHS boys garnered their first win of the season at the tournament.
Jake Sisk scored four goals to lead the Jackets to a 10-0 win against Cordell in the opener.
He was one of six Jackets to score in the contest.
Reid Witt added two goals while Hayden Green, Santiago Ortega, Diego Muñoz and Eduardo de la Torre notched one goal apiece.
Witt, Green, Ortega and de la Torre also had one assist each.
The Jackets dropped their next two games of the tournament as they suffered a 4-0 defeat to Weatherford in the semifinals and then 10-0 to Yukon in Friday’s thirdplace game.
