LaVerne Waggoner
LaVerne Marie Meyer Waggoner went to Her Heavenly Home on March 20, 2024, at the age of 89.
She was born at home on Jan. 27, 1935, in Okarche to Henry A. and Mary Bomhoff Meyer and was baptized on Feb. 17, 1935, and confirmed on April 10, 1949, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Okarche.
She started school in a two-room schoolhouse with grades 1-4 in one room and 5-8 in another room. She then went to Okarche High School through her senior year.
After high school, she went to Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater for a two-year secretarial course.
It was there where she met the love of her life, Ted John Waggoner of Purcell.
After finishing her two years of school, she moved back home and got a job with North American Insurance Company.
LaVerne and Ted got married on Jan. 14, 1956, at St. John’s Lutheran Church and moved to a farm southeast of El Reno.
They transferred their membership to Trinity Lutheran Church of El Reno on April 14, 1957. There she helped with many events at the church.
Her greatest passion was caring for and loving her family.
She was always very involved in her kids’ many activities including 4-H, FFA and FHA.
She and Ted attended and supported numerous school functions.
Her devotion to caring for her family was always reflected in her cooking.
She dedicated much time and effort into preparing wonderful and elaborate meals, including the great undertaking of preparing and delivering those meals to the field during harvest.
She loved to hear people comment on her wonderful meals and ever so modestly she would reply, “Oh, I just threw something together.”
She was well-known for her delicious homemade pies with coconut, pecan and cherry being among the favorites.
LaVerne enjoyed working in her flower beds, sewing beautiful quilts (which won her numerous awards), being with her family and playing her piano and organ as she loved her Lord.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary Meyer; brothers Erwin and Alfred Meyer; sister Mary Ann Meyer; her husband of 60 years, Ted Waggoner; daughter Sherry Waggoner; son Michael Waggoner; and two grandsons, Matthew and Ryan Waggoner.
She is survived by her sons Terry Waggoner of Tonkawa and his fiancé Charlotte Morgan of Ponca City, Jim and wife Pattie Waggoner of El Reno, Wayne and wife Susie Waggoner of Okarche;, daughter Carol and husband Joe Bosler of Union City; grandchildren, Josh Bosler of Dallas, Texas, Johnnie and wife Kiara Bosler of Claremore, Eric and wife Randie Waggoner of El Reno, Kyle and wife Autumn Waggoner of Okarche, Ethan Waggoner of Noble, and Mackenzie Waggoner and fiancé Grant Lumpkin of El Reno.
She is also survived by her numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 25, at Trinity Lutheran Church, El Reno. Burial will follow the service at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Okarche.
Public viewing will be 1-6 p.m. Sunday, March 24, with the family present from 3-5 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home- El Reno.
