James ‘Jim’ Floyd
James “Jim” or “Jimmy” Lee Floyd, 83, of Okarche, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at the chapel of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing. Jim was born Oct. 12, 1935, in Oilton to the late Charles and Goldie (Jones) Floyd.
He grew up in oil industry housing in Oilton, Drumright and Pauls Valley, graduating from Pauls Valley High School in 1954.
Jim married the love of his life, Gerri (Gearldine) Walker, on Jan. 20, 1961, at the First Christian Church in Cushing. To this union Jim Jr., Michael, and Karen were born.
Jim worked in the oil and gas service industry all his life, first in the field, and then from an office, and was very well-liked and respected in his field.
The family lived in many states due to his profession before returning to Oklahoma in 1983. He and Gerri built their retirement home in Okarche in 2000 before he retired from Cudd Pressure Control in 2001. › ›Jim was a member of the Kingfisher Elks Lodge and the Kingfisher Golf Course. His wife Gerri learned to play golf first, and after much encouragement she got Jim to play. The day this happened his kids joked that they had become golf orphans. › ›After Gerri passed in 2015, Jim found companionship late in life and married Anne (Call) Floyd on Feb. 16, 2019. The household grew from two (Jim and his cat) to five with Anne and her two cats. › ›He is survived by his wife Anne of Okarche; son Jim Floyd Jr. of Lakewood, Colo., daughter Karen Floyd of Arvada, Colo.; brothers Mike Floyd of Longview, Texas, and Joe Floyd of Aransas Pass, Texas; and grandchildren Nicole Biersdorfer and Robbi Floyd of Colorado. ››Jim was preceded in death by his parents, wife Gerri, son Michael Edward Floyd, and brothers John, George and Jerry Floyd. ››Jim’s favorite type of animal was a rescue. So in lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in his memory to the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Colorado at https://www.wildanimalsanctuary.org.
