Strong 2nd half pushes Hartshorne past Cashion
Missed opportunities in the fourth quarter by Cashion allowed Hartshorne to claim a 71-64 come-frombehind win.
The loss last Friday ended Cashion’s season in a Class 2A area consolation semifinal at Stride Bank Center in Enid.
“We played great for three quarters,” said coach Andrea Taylor. “Their experience took over and we didn’t match what they were able to do.”
Cashion led 52-48 entering the fourth, but was outscored 23-12.
That despite Hartshorne picking up two technical fouls in the final frame.
Cashion missed all four free throws following those technicals.
“It was a huge momentum swing. We also missed some wide open looks and turned the ball over,” Taylor said. “We had every opportunity to win.”
Five different Lady Miners scored in the fourth quarter and three of them had at least five points.
They were led by Alanna Williams’ 19 points. She had 17 through three quarters.
Brooklyn Suringer added 14 as did Jayda Moore. Reanna Williams scored 12.
Cashion got 19 apiece from Lauren Jenkins and Megan Shafer.
Jenkins made three of Cashion’s eight 3-pointers. Cashion outscored Hartshorne 21-13 in the second quarter to take an 11-point lead.
The Lady Miners cut into their deficit with a 25-point third quarter. They scored 48 in the second half.
Ranked 13th, Cashion finished the year at 20-8.
The Lady Wildcats got nine points from Reese Williams and eight from Madison Westerhoff.
