Dale too much for Cashion at County Line

Cashion got a chance to prove itself against the best on Saturday.

Dale proved it is, in fact, still the best.

The defending Class 2A state champion Lady Pirates took care of business in beating Cashion 69-22 in the championship game of the Cashion County Line Tournament.

After taking a five-point lead after a quarter, Dale dominated the final three frames.

In started with an 18-3 run in the second period and hardly slowed.

Dale was 11 of 17 from 3-point range in those last three quarters.

The undefeated Lady Pirates had three players in double figures, led by Teague Muncy’s 18 points.

Megan Shafer paced Cashion, ranked ninth in Class 2A, with eight points.

The Lady Wildcats shot just 2 of 18 from 3-point range in the game.

Cashion took care of business in the fourth quarter Friday in knocking off Perry 57-44 in the semifinals.

The Lady Maroons were ranked 13th in Class 3A.

Cashion led by five entering the fourth quarter when it outscored Perry 16-8.

Shafer scored 21 in the win while Lauren Jenkins poured in 16 more.

Perry was led by Kennedy Hight’s 23 points.

Cashion (12-4) has now played the No. 1-ranked team in Class A (Seiling), 2A (Dale) and 3A (Washington).

Cashion Boys Finish 4th The Cashion boys also got a dose of a top-ranked team.

The Wildcats were defeated 86-45 by 3A’s Oklahoma Christian School in Friday’s semifinal game.

OCS, which beat Fairview 75-48 for the championship, carried a 17-point lead into halftime, then opened the second half with a 28-5 run.

The Saints were led by Ben Ramsdell and Luke Gray, who scored 19 points apiece.

In Saturday’s championship, Gray became the school’s all-time scoring leader, surpassing Blake Griffin.

Cashion got 13 points from Nathan Nabavi and nine from Drake Woody.

Woody then poured in 30 points on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough as Cashion was knocked off 69-58 by Community Christian in the third-place game.

Community Christian is ranked 14th in Class 4A.

The Royals led by just three points after three quarters, but outscored Cashion 19-11 in the fourth.

Woody went 7 of 14 from 3-point range and the Wildcats totaled 13 3-pointers as a team.

The Royals made 10 treys, but outscored Cashion 24-10 inside the arc and 15-9 at the foul line.

Anthony Wilburn added nine points for Cashion, which fell to 7-7 on the season.
