Harviston 2,000 points (& counting)
Twins both pass scoring milestone as Dover dominates Garber
Dover fans saw one big win and two big milestones all in one game.
The Lady Longhorns dominated Class A’s topranked Garber 54-28 at home on Tuesday night.
In the process, both Karlee and Katelyn Harviston surpassed the 1,000-point mark for their careers.
“It felt good to win that one the way we did,” said Dover coach Matt Peck after his team moved to 11-0 on the season.
The Lady Wolverines came into the game with a 4-1 mark. They’d lost 44-37 to Cashion in the finals of their own tournament the previous Saturday.
In all other games this season, Garber had scored at least 53 points.
But the visitors couldn’t handle Dover’s man-to-man pressure.
Garber had just two points after a quarter and still only two about midway through the second before a minor dose of foul trouble forced the Lady Longhorns into a zone.
“We just went full-pressure man on them,” Peck said. “And if they did beat the press, then it was about trying to clog the lane and make it cluttered in there for their big girls.”
Dover was up 23-6 at halftime and was never threatened.
Coming into the night Karlee Harviston had 995 career points.
She got her 1,000th (and 1,001st) on a bucket in the second quarter and finished her night with 16.
Her twin sister Katelyn Harviston had a bit more work to do.
She entered the night needing 22 points to hit 1,000.
Katelyn scored half the team’s points in that first-quarter surge and had 13 by halftime.
She pushed her total to 17 entering the fourth quarter.
She got to 1,000 by making her fifth of six free throw attempts in the fourth.
Katelyn added two more field goals later and ended her night with 26 points.
Garber was led by Chloe Wilkerson’s eight points.
Dover is off until Jan. 2 when it hosts Medford.
