Kingfisher’s Lopez signs with Friends
Versatility has helped Zaylynn Lopez earn a college scholarship.
The Kingfisher High School senior last Tuesday signed to continue her cross country and track and field career at Friends University in Wichita, Kan.
Lopez signed during a ceremony at the KHS commons in front of family, teammates, classmates and coaches, among others.
Lopez is currently a member of the KHS cross country team, which is ranked No. 1 in Class 4A.
She also participates in track and field in the spring.
Along with running some distance events, Lopez also took up the pole vault last season.
All of those abilities combined have Kerri Lafferty - Kingfisher’s cross country and track coach - looking forward to what Lopez can accomplish at the next level.
“We are very excited for Zaylynn and her family,” Lafferty said.
A willingness to work should benefit Lopez, Lafferty said.
“Last year was her first year to learn pole vault and she really made great strides throughout the season. She has also continued to improve in cross country,” she said.
“There is no telling what she will be able to accomplish at Friends University. This is an amazing opportunity for her to further compete in cross country and track and field.”
