Okarche plays way into semis
Okarche was closer to getting beat by the sunrise than by Wister.
The Warriors punched their way into the Class A baseball semifinals EARLY Friday morning by eliminating second-ranked Wister 5-0 in the quarterfi nals at Edmond Memorial High School.
The game was originally slated to begin at 6:30 p.m., but Wednesday rains pushed Thursday’s scheduled start tine to 8:45 p.m.
The teams didn’t actually take the field for the fourth and final quarterfinal until about 11 p.m.
When they did, Easton Roby took care of business as the sophomore limited Wister to just two hits.
He got the only run support he needed in the bottom of the first as the Warriors scored three times.
That included a two-run single from Brett Carnott while Jett Mueggenborg drove in another run.
Okarche added two more runs in the fifth to advance to the fall semifinals for the first time since 2010.
The Warriors last reached a spring semifinal in 2011. In both of those seasons, the Warriors were state runners-up.
Ninth-ranked Okarche played No. 3 Rattan at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the semifinals (after press time of this edition).
No. 1 Oktaha and No. 5 Silo played the other semifi nal.
The Class A championship is 12:05 p.m. Saturday at Bricktown Ballpark.
