Clinton topples KHS again
Lady Reds complete district sweep with 3-2 win
For some reason, Clinton just had Kingfisher’s number on the softball diamond this season.
The Lady Reds completed their district sweep of KHS on Tuesday by winning 3-2 with a walkoff run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Grace Meacham’s bunt proved to be the game winner as Clinton’s Baliegh Giblet beat Kinlee East’s throw to the plate.
Giblet had led off the seventh with a walk, stole second, then advanced to third on a fly ball.
It was just Clinton’s third win of the season… with two of those being against Kingfisher.
The Lady Reds improved to 3-6 in District 4A-1 games while KHS dropped to 2-7.
Clinton scored in the bottom of the second to stake a 2-1 lead, one it held until the top of the sixth inning.
That’s when Jancee Matthews’ one-out double brought home Kinley Taylor, who earlier legged out an infield single.
But Kambree Davis was able to get out of the rest of the inning unscathed, then held KHS scoreless in the top of the seventh as well.
KHS was able to strike first when East ripped a two-out triple in the top of the first inning.
She was brought home on Matthews’ single for a brief 1-0 lead.
Clinton tied it up in the first, then Davis helped her own cause with an RBI single in the second.
Davis gave up seven hits, struck out three and walked one for Clinton.
East only surrendered five hits through 6 1/3 innings.
Two of the runs were earned and she struck out four Lady Reds while walking two.
Matthews was the lone Lady Jacket with multiple hits as she finished 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs.
Adlee Friesen, Taylor, East, Kynli Boeckman and Gracie Rowan also had hits for KHS.
