Kingfisher County athletes make their mark at OCA All-State games

The week started with a hall of fame induction and ended with a win. The Oklahoma Coaches Association last week held its annual All-State games and coaches clinic in the Tulsa area. Former Kingfisher coach and athletic director Craig Patterson was inducted into the OCA Hall of Fame on Aug. 22 before the games got started. Lomega’s Darcy Roberts (40) was a part of the Small West team that was defeated by the Small East. She is pictured with Katie Edelen (30) of Arapaho-Butler and Maylee Chaney (43) of Hammon, both of whom will be her teammates at Northern Oklahoma College-Enid. Kingfisher’s Caden Kitchens (second from left) and Xavier Ridenour (third from left) were a part of the Large West team that defeated the Large East 93-83. Ridenour scored eight points in the victory while Kitchens scored two. PHOTO 5: The week culminated Friday night at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee with the football game.The West’s Justin Humphrey (Pauls Valley) scored on a 1-yard run and then kicked the extra-point with 1:17 to play to lift his team to a 15-14 win. The winning score was set up by an errant punt snap by the East, giving the West possession at the 3-yard line. Four Kingfisher County players took part in the victory and one of them scored the West’s first touchdown. Jax Sternberger (18) found the end zone on a 17-yard scramble at 5:51 of the second quarter to put the West up 8-7. His KHS teammate Wrigley Kennedy (70) was in on the scoring drive as on offensive linemen. Joining the two Jackets were a pair of Wildcats from Cashion, Max Brown (27) and Jackson Vandruff (55).
