The Beutler (almost) did it
Cashion senior is Class 2A state runner-up in 110, 300 meter hurdles
Boedy Beutler couldn’t make the finals in the hurdles events as a junior.
He did more than just make the finals in 2023.
The Cashion High School senior closed out his career strong with a pair of silver medals.
Beutler was second in both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles at last weekend’s Class 2A state track and field meet at Western Heights.
“I did a lot of training,” Beutler said of building up to his final high school meet.
But the training wasn’t always easy.
“I couldn’t practice hurdles before we had the track in Cashion,” he said. “My parents would have to drive me over to Kingfisher to practice there. But once we got the track here, I went over a lot during the summers just trying to get my form better. I would push my body to exhaustion every time because that’s what had to be done to be good.”
Beutler went from state qualifier to two-time state runner-up.
He was edged in both races by Coda Ollar of Wister.
Beutler ran the 110 hurdles final in 15.45 seconds, just .13 behind Ollar.
The two were neck-andneck again in the 300 hurdles as Ollar crossed in 39.54 and Beutler in 40.95.
The Cashion boys scored 17 points at the state meet, good for 18th in the team standings.
Their other point came from Gage Bedick, who was eighth in the 800 meter run.
Cashion’s girls scored 10 points.
Reese Williams made her way to the medal stand in the 300 hurdles.
Williams was the last qualifier for the event.
She entered state with a seed time of 50.96 seconds, then ran her prelim race in 49.85.
But in the finals, Williams shaved more than two seconds off that time as she crossed in 47.70, good for a bronze medal.
She was also eighth in the 100 meter dash.
Cashion also got points from Chevy Eubanks, seventh in the 200, and Sierra McCracken, eighth in the 800.
The Class 2A state champs were the Stroud girls and Hooker boys.
