Freshmen garner gold during Wildcat Relays

Freshmen played a big role in the Kingfisher High School girls’ second track meet of the season.

KHS took third place Friday in the second annual Wildcat Relays at Cashion.

The Lady Jackets scored 87 team points and won gold in four different events.

Freshmen took part in all of them.

Scout Snodgrass won both the 400 meter dash and 800 meter run.

She was also a part of the gold medal-winning 3,200 meter relay team.

Joining her were fellow freshman Harper Evans along with senior Chesni Newkirk and sophomore Natalie Garrett.

Kingfisher’s other gold came in the 300 meter hurdles, won by freshman Abbie Myers.

That was the second of two hurdles events in which Myers medaled.

She was third in the 100 hurdles with her time of 18.43 seconds. Jancee Matthews was fifth in 19.11.

Myers’ winning time in the 300 hurdles was 54.42.

Teammate Jaelin Cortes was fifth in that event, two seconds behind Myers.

Snodgrass ran the 800 in 2:31.71, which was nearly 10 seconds faster than the runner-up, Callie Chapman of Jones.

Garrett was fifth in the event and Zaylynn Lopez took sixth.

The 400 saw Snodgrass barely edge Alva’s Lakin Gaddy.

Snodgrass was timed at 1:02.90 while Gaddy crossed in 1:02.91.

The two-mile relay team finished in 10:44.61, more than four seconds faster than Chisholm’s second- place time.

Newkirk also medaled in the 3,200 meter run as she took third in 14:13.11 KHS was also fourth in the 800 relay and fifth in both the 400 and mile relays.

Other placings for KHS saw Lopez take sixth in the mile run and Emmy Lunsford sixth in the pole vault.

Cashion’s girls finished sixth in the team standings with 50 points.

Reese Williams took home a bronze medal in three different individual events.

Williams was third in the 100, 200 and 400.

Addison McCracken was second in the two-mile run and third in the 800.

Cashion was also third in the two-mile relay.

Megan Shafer took home the bronze medal in the shot put.

Cashion’s boys were 10th in the team standings with 15 points.

Boedy Beutler was third in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the 110 hurdles.

Gage Bedick took fourth in the 800 while Luke Baustert finished sixth in the 3,200. Andrew Rednose was fifth in the shot put to give KHS its only two points of the meet. North Rock Creek won the boys team title with 127 points. Chisholm was second with 115.
