Arnett downs Dover in area consolation
Dover went toe-to-toe with Arnett for the better part of three quarters.
In the end, the Lady Wildcats were just too much.
Its best season in 14 years came to an end Friday when Dover was downed 66-49 by Arnett in the Class B area consolation semifinal at Woodward.
The trip to area was the first for the Lady Longhorns since 2009, when they were also knocked out in the consolation semifinal round.
This season ended with a 23-7 record.
Arnett had just three losses entering the game, but couldn’t pull away from 12th-ranked Dover until late.
It was a four-point game after a quarter and the Lady Wildcats led 32-27 at halftime.
Dover relies heavily on the scoring of junior twins Karlee and Katelyn Harviston.
That was true in the first half as the two combined for 12 points, but Rylee Buck and Ashley Gamez combined for the other 15.
The latter two were held scoreless in the second half.
Still, Dover was within 41-40 at 2:35 of the third quarter.
Arnett was able to close on a 7-1 run and, in the meantime, Karlee Harviston collected her fourth foul.
Katelyn Harviston grabbed her fourth 46 seconds into the last quarter.
She eventually fouled out with over five minutes to play.
While they battled foul trouble, Arnett was making its move.
Between Katelyn’s fourth and fifth fouls, Arnett went on a 7-0 run to lead by 13. Not long after, Gamez also fouled out.
Arnett outscored Dover 18-8 overall in the fourth. It was a 25-9 run over the game’s final 10:35.
Anna Sant’Anaa led the Lady Wildcats with 25 points. They also got 12 from Landry Bayless.
The Harvistons scored 16 points apiece for Dover. The two notched all but two of the team’s second-half points.
Buck ended her night with nine points while Gamez scored six.
