Lady Jackets start strong in win over John Marshall
John Marshall was overmatched coming into the regional, then the Lady Bears were overwhelmed during it.
KHS moved into the regional final with a 70-28 victory Thursday on its home court in a game that wasn’t even as close as the lopsided score.
The Lady Jackets scored the game’s first 19 points and didn’t allow a field goal until almost midway through the second quarter.
When senior Mya Dewberry buried a 3-pointer at 2:40 of the second quarter, fourth-ranked Kingfisher’s lead was 35-5.
It was Kingfisher’s seventh trey of the half and most of them came from Peyton Walker.
The junior made all three of her attempts in the first quarter and added another in the second.
Walker knocked down yet one more in the third quarter to finish with 15 points.
Fellow junior Addy Matthews knocked down three treys of her own and also scored 15.
Emily Myers, like Dewberry, played for the final time on the APB court.
She scored seven points, including two treys in the third quarter.
The Lady Jackets also got nine points from Raegan Snider and eight from Kadyn Daugherty.
The Lady Jackets (20-4) played Inola at 6 p.m. Saturday in the regional championship. The Thursday win locked up a berth in this week’s area tournament.
