Lady Longhorns earn first area win in 14 years

Dover had two Harvistons.
Dover wins.
The junior twins Katelyn and Karlee Harviston combined for 36 points Thursday to lift the Lady Longhorns to a 54-39 victory against Tyrone in Woodward.
The win came in the Class B area consolation quarterfinals and was Dover’s first at area since 2009, which was also the last time it advanced to that stage.
The Lady Longhorns’ win advanced them to the consolation semifinals. They played No. 8 Arnett on Friday afternoon (after press time of this edition).
Up 14-10 after a quarter, Dover took command in the second with a 19-8 run to build a 15-point advantage.
Katelyn Harviston knocked down two 3-pointers and scored 10 points in the quarter.
She led all scorers with 19.
Kendyl Humphries scored 10 points of her own in the third quarter as Tyrone cut its deficit to 11 points.
But Dover didn’t budge from there.
Karlee Harviston scored seven of her 17 points in the fourth quarter and Dover’s defense did the rest as it pulled away for the win.
Karlee Harviston had 11 of her points in the second half.
Katelyn Harviston scored all but four of hers in the first half.
Dover also got eight points from Ashley Gamez, including a 3-pointer in the first quarter.
Madison Goodwin added six points and Rylee Buck four as the Lady Longhorns upped their record to 23-6.
Tyrone’s season ended with an 18-10 mark.
