KHS girls grab win over 5A contender El Reno
Add another signature win to Kingfisher’s list.
The Lady Jackets on Monday knocked off Class 5A contender El Reno 5043 at the APB.
The victory avenged a loss to the Lady Indians from a year ago and upped Kingfisher’s season mark to 18-4.
El Reno is ranked third in the 5A west standings entering the playoffs and was coming off a win over No. 1 Carl Albert last Friday night.
But other than a sluggish second quarter, Kingfisher was able to handle what the Lady Indians sent their way.
Addy Matthews scored eight points and Kadyn Daugherty five more in the third as KHS took a 34-30 lead into the fourth.
That lead grew to as many as seven points before El Reno cut it to a point with under a minute to play.
It turned into a free throw game for KHS and the Lady Jackets responded.
Kingfisher was 11 of 16 from the line, including 8 of 10 in the final 55 seconds to maintain the lead.
The Lady Jackets had three players reach double figures and just missed a fourth.
Matthews scored 15 to lead the way.
Raegan Snider, who was 9 of 10 from the line, scored 11.
Emily Myers scored five in each the first and fourth quarters for her 10 points.
Daugherty ended her night with nine.
Emmary Elizondo scored 13 to pace El Reno (14-5) while Lilly Thomas scored 10.
