The girls championship trophy of the Cherokee Strip Conference Tournament may have a permanent home.
Lomega won the title for the eighth straight year Saturday night with a 7232 victory against Cherokee in the championship game at Pioneer-Pleasant Vale High School.
One year after dominating foes by an average of 52 points per game, the Lady Raiders upped that margin of victory to 57.3 points a game over the three days.
Abby Swart scored 49 points over the final two days to bring home the Most Valuable Player plaque.
The junior guard scored 27 points in the championship game.
She made six 3-pointers, half of them in the first quarter. That was part of a 12-point stanza for Swart as Lomega got out to a 2611 lead.
Swart knocked down two more treys and scored eight points in the second and had single-handedly outscored the Lady Chiefs 20-17 by that point.
Swart was joined on the all-tournament team by Darcy Roberts and Sydni Walker.
Roberts scored 12 in the title game, including 10 in the first half.
Walker added six points along with Aliana Lawson and Jenny Peneran.
Burlington was dropped 78-22 in Friday’s semifinal.
Swart and Roberts scored 10 points apiece in the first quarter.
Swart had 18 of her 22 points by halftime.
Roberts finished with 16.
Walker added 12 points while Chloe Meier scored nine.
The Lady Raiders also beat Deer Creek-Lamont 92-16 in the opening round.
Lomega ended the tournament with an 18-1 overall record.
Raiders beat Burlington for 3rd
Ringwood earned a bit of revenge on Friday as it beat Lomega 57-50 in the semifinals of the Cherokee Strip Conference Tournament.
The Raiders beat Ringwood by seven points just three days earlier.
This time around, they had to play catch-up after giving up 23 first-quarter points and facing a double- digit deficit.
It never fully happened despite Owen Duffy’s best efforts.
The senior scored 21 points in defeat.
The Raiders’ Lance Yost added another 17.
Yost came back on Saturday to net 24 points in Lomega’s 62-41 victory over Burlington for third place.
Yost had eight points in the second as Lomega outscored the Elks 23-4.
He scored 11 more in the third quarter.
Chase Burton added 10 points while Duffy scored eight.
Duffy and Yost were named to the all-tournament team. The Raiders were 14-5 after the weekend and are now ranked 20th in Class B.
