Kingfisher’s Evans wins gold at Hub City
MS, JH boys combine for 11 placers
Delissa Evans claimed gold over the weekend to lead the Kingfisher girls wrestling team to a fifthplace finish.
The Lady Jackets scored 70 points to tie with Cache in the Hub City Classic junior high tournament at Clinton.
Evans won all four of her matches in the 145-pound bracket, which was decided via round-robin competition.
None of her matches reached the second period and two of them didn’t reach the second minute.
Evans pinned Hinton’s Lexii Garcia (1:21), Clinton’s MaKayla Stennis (1:45), Cache’s Logan Mc-Clung (:26) and Hinton’s Kimberly Lara (:28) en route to gaining 38 of her team’s points.
Rylee Hamil racked up 24 points for her runner-up finish at 126 pounds.
Hamil was edged 8-5 by Lawton’s Teyanna Fields in the title bout.
She pinned Aaliyah Salazar and Altus’ Brooklyn Whitfield en route to the finals.
Sydnie Toepfer took fifth at 117 pounds and scored eight points.
KMS has 7 placers
Kingfisher Middle School had seven placers including two who reached the finals - at last weekend’s Hub City Classic in Clinton.
Kaden Willms was the runner-up at 92 pounds and Kody Penwright at 170.
They helped lead the team to 108 points, good for sixth.
Meanwhile, Cashion was third with 140.5.
The Wildcats had eight placers, which included one runner-up and two more bronze medal winners.
Ryder West was second at 119 pounds.
Daniel Davis took third at 155 and Mason Hisey the same at 170.
For Kingfisher, Willms had two falls and a 7-1 decision to make his way into the finals, where he was defeated by Briggs Reeves of Cordell.
Penwright’s division was round-robin. He beat Cashion’s Hisey and Daylen Atkinson of Hobart, but lost to Clinton’s Rayden Walker.
Chance Dunn was third at 112 pounds.
Dunn pinned his quarterfi nal foe, but was defeated by Damien Watson of Lawton in the semis.
He came back to win two straight consolation matches by narrow margins, 3-0 against Angel Borjas of Clinton and 6-4 against Cashion’s Reese Ratcliff.
Also for the middle school, Josh Haynes placed fourth at 106 pounds, Oliver Moyeda was fourth at 126 pounds, Andrew Needham placed fourth at 195 and Tylan Sumlin sixth at 195.
KJH sees 4 placers
Four Jackets placed in the junior high division, led by a pair of silver medalists.
Cale Browning was the runner-up at 92 pounds and Brayden Kochenower at 132.
Kingfisher was eighth in the junior high division with 110 points.
Kochenower was responsible for 34 of them.
He had three straight falls to land in the semifinals, where he picked up an 8-2 decision against Liam Foster of Lawton Eisenhower.
In the finals, it was Cache’s Max Daly who emerged as he outlasted Kochenower 7-4.
Browning pinned two foes in less than a minute to find his spot in the 92-pound title bout.
He was defeated by Cameron Emerson in that match and took home silver.
Jaxon Sheppard was the 119-pound bronze medalist.
He went 4-1 in his bracket, which included beating Jack Madden of Hobart 6-4 for third place.
Casen Chlouber was defeated in his second-round match, but the freshman came back to win five consecutive consolation matches to earn a spot in the thirdplace match.
One of those wins was against Jayce Villines of Weatherford, the wrestler who sent him to the consolation bracket. In the third place match, Chlouber was defeated by Baylor Owings of Weatherford.
He finished 6-2 and scored 30 points for the Jackets.
Cashion was 12th in the division with 86 points.
The Wildcats were led by Carlos Martinez, who was the gold medal winner at 155 pounds.
Ethan Waswo was third at 195.
