Garber able to put an end to Dover girls win streak, 62-49
Garber’s size was enough to end Dover’s winning streak.
The Lady Wolverines kept their unbeaten record intact Tuesday with a 60-43 win against Dover at home.
A quarter of players 6-feet tall - or taller - combined to score 48 of Garber’s points.
The seventh-ranked team in Class A was led by Kayleigh Eiland and Leila Washington.
Both scored seven points in the second quarter as Garber outscored Dover 2112 for a 10-point halftime advantage.
Karlee Harviston scored eight points in the third quarter to help keep Dover within striking distance, trailing by 11.
The junior added seven more in the fourth, but Eiland poured in 10 and Garber pulled away.
Eiland finished the game with 20 points while Washington scored 11.
Kamilah Gay - listed at 6-2 - nailed three 3-pointers and scored nine points.
Harviston led all scorers with 25 points.
Sophomore Rylee Buck added nine.
The loss was Dover’s first in eight games as Class B’s 16th-ranked Lady Longhorns fell to 9-3 overall. Garber improved to 7-0.
Wolverines light up 3-point line in win
Dover struggled to contain Garber’s 3-point shooting.
And, after the first quarter, the Longhorns couldn’t connect on their own.
Those factors contributed Tuesday night to a 62-49 road loss to the Wolverines.
Garber made 13 3-pointers in the contest, which helped it build up a 14-point halftime lead that grew to 22 points entering the fourth.
Brett Howry was the guilty party on six of those treys to account for all 18 of his points.
Colton Steinert connected on four more and also scored 18.
Mark Bishop made two from long range and added 17 points for the home team.
In all, the Wolverines outscored Dover 39-6 from beyond the arc.
Dover’s two treys came in the first quarter.
Orlando Lozano and Damion Turner each hit from outside the 3-point line and Dover was within 15-11 at the end of the frame.
But Garber made five treys in the second and outscored the Longhorns 20-10.
Kolten Shaw and Turner paced the Longhorns with 12 points apiece.
The Longhorns enter the holiday break with a 5-7 record.
