Kennedy, Choate have career nights in Hennessey victories
A career night from Katie Kennedy allowed Hennessey to send a homeschool team back home… with a loss.
The sophomore scored 26 points Tuesday as the Lady Eagles defeated Tulsa CHEF 49-40 at the Eagle Event Center.
The two teams were fairly even in the first and third quarters. It was the second and fourth frames that set Hennessey apart.
The Lady Eagles outscored the Arrows 32-20 in those quarters.
Kennedy was consistent throughout as she scored at least five points in every quarter.
With her team up two entering the fourth, she closed it out with nine points over the final eight minutes.
That included going 5 of 6 from the free throw line.
Yuridia Rios mirrored the big quarters.
She scored 11 of her 14 points in those stanzas.
Bella Hanlon led Tulsa CHEF with 13 points. She made four three pointers, but was held without a field goal in the fourth quarter.
Hennessey is now 5-1 on the season. The Lady Eagles won just six games all of last season.
Choate drops 29 in 73-57 Eagle victory
Career highs were contagious in the Eagle Event Center.
Layton Choate did his part in the boys contest as he helped lead the Eagles to a 73-57 victory against Tulsa CHEF on Tuesday.
Up just two points at halftime, Hennessey outscored the Arrows 38-24 in the second half.
“It was tough,” HHS coach Brady Page said. “They’re a pretty good team.”
But Hennessey was also at full strength for the first time in nearly four full games.
James Sims made his return after sitting out with a concussion.
He delivered a double- double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Jael Torres added 17, including nine in the third quarter as the Eagles began to pull away.
But the night belonged to Choate.
The senior had monster second and fourth quarters en route to his 29 points.
He scored 11 in the second stanza and then 10 more in the fourth as the Eagles put away the Arrows.
Ranked fourth in Class 2A, Hennessey is now 4-2.
