KHS boys, Lomega girls sit atop this week’s basketball rankings
While basketball rankings for Classes A and B have been released for several weeks now, Monday was the first day for 2A-6A.
When they were revealed on OSSAArankings. com, the county has several teams in the top-10 and two who are at the top of their respective classes.
The Kingfisher boys have opened the season at No. 1. The defending state champions received 41 first-place votes. (Note: They hosted No. 6 Newcastle on Tuesday night after press time.)
In Class 2A, the Hennessey boys are ranked No. 4 on the season. Despite having two losses, the Eagles have been without one of their key contributors for three games (James Sims).
Cashion’s boys, last year’s 2A state runner-up, were ranked 14th to open the season.
In Class A, Okarche’s boys held steady at No. 6 as they’ve won eight games in a row.
On the girls’ side, Lomega is No. 1 in Class B.
The Lady Raiders began the season there, but dropped to No. 2 behind Pittsburg last week.
Lomega reclaimed the top spot this week over the team that beat it in last year’s state title game.
Dover has moved into the rankings at No. 16 as the Lady Longhorns are riding a seven-game win streak.
Okarche’s girls are currently No. 9 in Class A.
The KHS girls are ranked No. 7 to open the year in 4A. Five of the top eight teams in the class are in Kingfisher’s conference.
That includes No. 1 Bethany, No. 2 Tuttle, No. 3 Weatherford, KHS and No. 8 Anadarko.
