Judge Upholds No Bond Request at Wu Chen Video Hearing
BOND DENIED — Wu Chen, 45, made his first appearance Monday afternoon in Kingfisher County District Court via video feed on four charges of first-degree murder with deliberate intent and one charge of assault and battery with a deadly weapon for the shooting deaths of four Chinese citizens and serious injury of a fifth person Nov. 20 at the Chen & Liu medical marijuana grow facility near Lacey. Chen's attorney, Mitchell S. Solomon from the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System's capital crimes division, appeared with Chen and a Mandarin interpreter on the video feed from the Kingfisher County Criminal Justice Center, where Chen has been detained since his return from Miami Beach, Fla., last Thursday night. Associate District Judge Schneiter presided over the hearing, which also included District Attorney Mike Fields and Assistant District Attorney Austin Murrey from Canadian County. Solomon told the court that he "stood mute" on the state's application to deny bond for Chen, but reserved the right to file an application for bond at a later time. Solomon also announced that his client's name is in fact Wu Chen and not Chen Wu, as it appears in the criminal charging information filed by the state.
