Crescent preys on Jets, 42-8
Tigers enter final 2 weeks with shot to win District A-3 title
After a quick reprieve from district play, Crescent now turns its attention to a pivotal two-week stretch.
The Tigers took care of Western Heights 42-8 last Friday in a non-district game to keep their perfect record intact.
C.J. Wilson averaged more than 20 yards a carry and scored two rushing touchdowns and Kade Varner was efficient passing the ball, adding two more TDs through the air.
All the while Crescent’s defense stymied the Jets, holding them to 144 total yards and keeping them out of the end zone until the latter part of the fourth quarter.
The Tigers put the game away early with three first-quarter touchdowns.
Wilson got things going with an 11-yard score less than two minutes into the game.
Tylan Neugent added a TD run and Varner threw his first score of the game, a 12-yard pass to Boston Cox, before the first quarter ended.
Wilson struck with a 56yard score and Tanner Rice added a 15-yard scamper as Crescent took a 35-0 halftime lead.
The Tigers got their final TD when Varner and Chism Watson connected for an 18-yard score in the middle of the third quarter.
Varner was 7 of 9 through the air for 72 yards.
He added another 40 yards rushing on just three attempts.
Wilson ran the ball just six times, but tallied 136 yards.
All told, Crescent ran for 264 yards and averaged 10.6 yards per carry.
Western Heights averaged just 3.0 yards per snap.
The Jets turned it over twice as Isaiah Lovett picked off two passes.
Rice led the defense with seven tackles, including 2.5 for a loss.
Neugent had six tackles. Crescent is 7-0 overall with two games left.
The Tigers host Minco this week before traveling to Cashion in Week 10.
If Crescent wins just one of those games, it will win the District A-3 championship.
A loss in both gives the district title to Christian Heritage and would push Crescent anywhere from second to fourth.
