Jackets 6th, KMS girls 3rd at Kingfisher Invitational
The Kingfisher High School boys were sixth in the final team standings of the Kingfisher Cross Country Invitational.
KHS totaled 167 points in the 5K race at Briscoe Park, which was the first race of the meet on Saturday morning and had 127 competitors.
Wyatt Long was 27th (24th) to lead the Jackets’ contingent.
He crossed the finish line in 20:18.00.
“I’m super proud of him,” said Kingfisher cross country coach Kerri Lafferty of the freshman. “Medaling in his first high school 5K is pretty impressive.”
Conner Askey was 35th (30th) and Alezandro Cuellar 40th (33rd) to also help lead the Jackets.
OCS was dominant in the team race with just 29 points.
OKC Knights were second with 67 and Jones third with 73.
Ethan Stovall of OCS won the individual title in 16:30.28, beating North Rock Creek’s Jordan Coody by more than 11 seconds.
••• The middle school girls division saw OKC Knights take first with 46 points.
The home school group’s Zyah Thrash won the milelong race in 6:40.50.
Kingfisher was third with 94 points, 34 points behind runner-up OCS.
LilyLunsfordout-sprinted the OKC Knights’ Reese Hart down the final stretch and passed her near the finish line to take second out of 101 runners.
Lunsford’s time was 6:49.66 and her finish put her first in team placing points.
Hinsley Brodrick was 25th (19th), Kellen Long 30th (22nd) and Rystan Jerkins 39th (25th) to give Kingfisher four runners in the top-25.
Lomega also had one of the race’s top runners as Claire Myers crossed the finish in sixth place with a time of 7:03.59.
Cashion was seventh and Hennessey eighth in the team standings.
Cashion was led by Molly Mayes, who was 16th (11th) and Hennessey by Camila Rios 36th (24th).
••• Hennessey was the only county school to field a full team in the middle school boys division.
The Eagles were 11th and led by Brok Cooper, who was 14th (13th) out of 132 runners.
He ran the two-mile course in 13:29.18.
Cole Baustert of Cashion was 27th and Kingfisher was led by Makaio McCully, who was 69th.
