Cashion claims 4th straight regional
Taylor, McCabe help lead the way to state to highlight strong county track showing

The defending Class 2A champs are now four-time regional champs.
Cashion’s girls bested the field in Stroud last Saturday to win a 2A track and field regional championship for the fourth consecutive year.
The Lady Wildcats scored 110 points. Stroud (93) and Luther (90) were second and third, respectively.
Junior Kaitin Taylor won two individual regional championships and qualified for state in three events.
Taylor won the 3,200 and 1,600 meter runs and was a part of the mile relay team that took second.
Relays bolstered Cash-ion’s score as the Lady ‘Cats won both the 400 and 800 events.
Madelyn McCabe, Bella Schenk and Lauren Lamb were on both of those relay teams. They were joined by Bella Woody in the 400 and Rylee Nance in the 800.
McCabe is battling through a leg injury that’s kept her out of recent meets, but still managed to become a state qualifier in four events.
She took second in both the high jump and long jump.
Cashion’s boys saw a regional champion crowned when Sam Brown won the 100.
Austin Vandruff took second in the 200 and third in the 400 to automatically qualify.
Justice Broadbent was second in the long jump and Jaron Stone third in the 800.
Crescent traveled northwest to Cherokee for its 2A regional and saw Elizabeth Battelo come back as a regional champ.
Battelo won the long jump and also took third in the 200.
Lomega’s Haley Hutchison came back from the Class A regional in Okemah with a lot more jewelry than when she arrived.
Hutchison won four gold medals to help the Lady Raiders to a third-place finish.
She won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs individually and then was a part of the winning two-mile relay team.
Sophie Vandendriessche joined her on the relay squad and was also third in the 3,200 to automatically qualify.
Lomega’s boys were the runner-up in their regional.
Tate Ott won the Raiders’ lone regional title as he claimed gold in the 1,600.
The Raiders took second in the mile and two-mile relays, third in the 800 relay and Hector Rivera was runner-up in the 3,200.
Hennessey largely dominated the throwing events at the 3A regional in Chisholm.
Sophomore Madison Collier was a regional champ in both the shot put and discus.
Senior Dalton Joyce nearly matched the feat for the boys. He won the discus, but settled for runner-up in the shot put.
The Class A and 2A state meet is Friday and Saturday at Western Heights High School.
The Class 3A and 4A meets are the same days at Catoosa High School.
