OHS speech wins Duncan sweepstakes
With a squad of only eight members, the Okarche speech team was able to amass enough points to bring home the sweepstakes trophy in Class 3A from the Duncan High School Invitational.
Held Friday and Saturday, Jan. 18-19, the competition drew contestants from eight schools in Class 3A.
Senior Katie Bomhoff was the tournament champion in monologue with junior teammate Carsyn Taylor taking second.
Jaxcey Beauchamp, another senior, was first in humorous interp, and Mikaila Kraus, a junior, was second. Kraus also placed fourth in poetry.
Sophomore Lyric Hickok teamed with freshman Emily Neuenschwander to win humorous duet.
Hickok also placed second in standard oratory and was a finalist in prose.
Angelica Mojica, an OHS freshman, was tournament champion in standard oratory and a finalist in prose.
Freshman Mackenzie Schneiter completed Okarche’s sweep of the medals in standard oratory by placing third.
The Okarche speech team will next compete at the Okeene contest Jan. 25-26.
