Rebels too much for Cashion in 2A semis

For the second straight year, Cashion ran into a baseball behemoth at the state tournament.
The Wildcats’ season was brought to a halt Friday with a 13-1 run-rule loss to No. 1 Silo in the Class 2A semifinals at Dolese Park in Oklahoma City.
The Rebels went on to defeat No. 2 Oktaha 7-3 on Saturday to complete a perfect 30-0 season and win the spring title for the fifth straight year.
It was just the third time a Cashion baseball team had advanced to the semifinals and the Rebels made sure early on the Wildcats didn’t make history by reaching the finals for the first time.
After giving up a run in the top of the first inning, Silo plated six of its own in the bottom half and three more in the second.
The first 10 Rebels who came to the plate in the first inning were able to reach base safely.
Five walks, two hit batters and three singles. Three of those walks were with the bases loaded.
Before it ended, four Cashion pitchers surrendered 11 hits and walked seven batters while striking out two.
Easton Ford led the way with his 3 for 3 showing. He drove in two runs and scored three times.
Cashion collected four hits.
Two of them belonged to Cooper Frazee.
After Landon LaGasse opened the game by being hit by a pitch, he scored on Frazee’s double for the early 1-0 Wildcat lead.
LaGasse and Derek Sheline delivered Cashion’s other hits.
Delton Roberts started for the Rebels and earned the win with two innings of work.
Roberts is the son of Dalton Roberts, who helped lead Dover to Class B baseball titles in 2001 and 2002.
The younger Roberts gave up one hit and struck out two and was also 1 for 3 with a run scored.
Cashion’s season ended with a 25-6 record.
Silo, which has just one senior, extended its overall win streak to 58 games, the longest such streak in the nation.
It leaves the Rebels eight wins shy of tying Capitol Hill’s state record streak of 66 games in 1953-54.
