KHS, Cashion grab Turkey Creek titles

Kingfisher and Cashion’s golf teams came away winners in their first tournament of the season.
The KHS boys were overall champs and Cashion won the 2A division Wednesday at the 2022 Turkey Creek Golf Tournament at Hennessey.
The Jackets’ 336 was the best of the 14 teams in the field on the cold, windy day.
“It was a good day considering the conditions and the fact we haven’t had an organized practice yet,” coach Chris Combs said.
Jacket junior Tristun Burnham was also the top overall golfer with his 5-over-par 75.
“That was a dang good score in those conditions,” Combs said. “He was solid from tee to green.”
Perry took second overall with its 339 and had the second- and third-place individuals.
Kingfisher’s Jax Stern-berger took fourth with his 82.
Combs noted that round was 14 strokes better than what Sternberger shot on the same course the previous year.
In their first tournaments for KHS, junior Cash Slezickey shot an 89 while freshman Paytun Burnham fired a 90 and fellow freshman Myles Harrison a 101.
“It was good for the new guys to get some needed experience,” Combs said.
Kingfisher was without Blake Hill.
Cashion shot a 358 to win the team title among the nine Class 2A squads in the field.
The Wildcats, runners-up in Class 2A’s state tournament a year ago, were led by Max Brown’s 85.
Cashion also got an 89 from Holten Aaron, 92s from Preston Cotte and Ashton Moore and a 106 from Mark Parrott.
Cashion was 16 strokes better than second-place Arapaho-Butler.
Crescent was fifth with its 420 and Hennessey sixth with a 423.
The Tigers were paced by Carter Johnson, who shot a 93.
Hennessey was led by Kevin Trillo’s 95.
