WHS nips KHS girls’ state run
Kingfisher girls’ magical playoff run came to an end Tuesday morning.
The Lady Jackets were downed 50-41 by No. 4 Weatherford in the Class 4A quarterfinals at State Fair Arena.
Weatherford led most of the game and was on top 42-35 with 2:55 to play.
KHS used a 6-2 run to pull within 44-41 with 1:21 to go before the Lady Eagles closed on a 6-0 run of their own.
Kingfisher’s season ends with a 24-6 record.
The Lady Jackets were playing their sixth game in nine days. They won five straight elimination games in just six days last week to earn their spot in the state tournament for the first time since 2009.

Kingfisher boys played Blanchard at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday after this issue went to press and Cashion boys play Latta at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
