Donald Black
Donald R. Black, 85, a longtime resident of Weatherford, died Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at Cimarron Nursing Home in Kingfisher.
Don was raised in Seminole and after high school graduation he attended Oklahoma A&M, where he pursued a degree in psychology.
While attending Oklahoma A&M, he took a leave of absence to serve in the U.S. Army and was active duty during the Korean War.
When he returned home, he completed his degree at what is now Oklahoma State University.
Late in life he became very active in politics working with the Republican party. He also loved his Cowboys and proudly wore the orange and black.
Don is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kaye, resident of Kingfisher; their two children, Vance Black and Donna Kay Arafat and husband Bassam; sister Peggy Harris; grandchildren, Robert Black and wife Ginger, Christopher Black and wife Shari, Miranda Robben and husband Jason, Cersten Golden and husband Clint, and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rockford and Gladys Black, and granddaughter Amanda Dawn.
A memorial service was Tuesday, April 16, at the Church of Christ in Weatherford.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
